Rey
Rey is a one-of-a-kind realistic male sculpture, entirely hand-sculpted by me in polymer clay. He stands 34.5 cm (13.6 inches) tall in his most upright position and weighs 578 g (20.4 oz) completely nude.
The work consists of 27 individual body elements connected with professional elastic cord made specifically for dolls. Every part was sculpted specifically for Rey. His individual components are unique to this work and are not designed to be transferred to or used on other bodies.
Rey is an anatomically detailed male sculpture, created with particular attention to the proportions and structure of the human body. His realistic male anatomy is an essential part of the work and also influences the way the articulated body moves and poses.
The eyes are handmade from polymer clay and resin and individually painted by hand. The hair is made from Tibetan lamb hair and is permanently attached to the head. The head itself can be detached from the body. Professional paints were used for the colouring, including both heat-set paints that are baked and paints that do not require baking.
As a complete nude male sculpture, Rey presents the human male body as an artistic subject in its own right. The realistic anatomy, proportions and physical presence of the nude sculpture form the foundation of the finished articulated work.
Rey's fashion image is a personal interpretation inspired by the Spring–Summer 2026 men's fashion direction in Milan. The concept explores relaxed men's trousers, strong masculine proportions and a more individual presence on the fashion runway.
He wears a bow tie, while his shirt is completely minimised, reduced to the area around the neck and leaving the strong anatomy of the male torso visible. His outfit is completed by wide, flowing trousers, platform shoes and a small bag made from Tibetan lambskin.
One of the details of Rey's appearance is a contemporary interpretation of the perchin — a traditional Bulgarian men's hairstyle from the 18th century. The perchin consisted of long hair kept only on the top of the head, gathered into a ponytail falling backwards toward the nape. It was an attribute of masculinity and a sign of a grown man ready to take on his responsibilities. In Rey's interpretation, this historical detail is turned forward, becoming part of his contemporary fashion identity.
Rey is a strong male character — masculine, individual and physically powerful, while remaining connected to contemporary fashion. The idea behind him is that the fashion runway can also belong to men with presence, personality and a strong physical identity.
This is an OOAK work of art. It is not made from ready-made parts, casts or 3D-printed components. Every individual element was sculpted specifically for Rey and is unique to this original work.
Creating Rey brought together sculpture, painting, articulated doll construction, hair work, fashion design and photography in one original piece. He is both a realistic nude male sculpture and an articulated BJD work of art, created as a single unique piece.
